I’m not going to tell you about Eric Stanton, as there are already so many websites and biographies dedicated to this great artist, a specialist in Femdom Art.

I was already much older than when I first came across the art of Roberto Raviola, alias Magnus. I was just 16 – not yet of legal age in France to access that sort of content.

The meeting took place in those well-known tobacconists/lottery outlets/papernews/bookshops.

On the display stand, amongst the dozens of glamour covers spread out before me—with their women using their beauty and lingerie to attract envious, sparkling glances—I spot this magazine, BEDE X - SM Comix, issue 61 from June 1992 - “Spécial Bondage”!, entirely devoted to erotic comics in all their forms: comics, fumetti, manga, European comics… Oh, what a surprise. A magazine about erotic comics! The cover featured an illustration by Chris. In a dungeon, a young girl, dressed in a bodysuit, gloves and blue leather thigh-high boots, chained and gagged, waits anxiously for the arrival of two hooded men in cassocks.

It was with a knot in my stomach that I went to the till to pay for the precious printout. Anyway.

Come evening, snug under the duvet in my bed, I was leafing through the magazine when I came across this short but complete story by Eric Stanton, Sis in Law (or La belle sœur in French), which recounts the heated confrontation between a strong-willed woman and her idle, pretentious brother-in-law. I am utterly captivated by the charismatic character of Isobel, who never fails to prick Clifford’s pride; he quickly shows signs of irritation, until the confrontation finally arrives. The young woman with platinum blonde hair then displays a certain ease in the fight, stringing together dodges, punches and submission holds, her pleated skirt twirling to reveal a pair of lace panties. She displays real talent in close-quarters ground fighting with a scissor hold, squeezing her victim’s chest between her thighs clad in nylon stockings to choke him. The man, in tears, suffocates and faints. The woman exhales in triumph.

What follows is just as delightful and has left a lasting impression on me. “Later…,” as Stanton writes, “after a shower… several cups of coffee…”, we find Isobel again, her silvery hair tied back in a ponytail. She looks stunning, dressed simply in a white dressing gown and her black patent leather heels, sitting with her legs crossed, drinking coffee. Clifford lies at her feet. He wakes up; she makes it clear to him that he is now under her authority, pressing his head firmly against the cold tiles beneath the sole of her shoe. He resists; she pierces his cheek with her heel! What a tremendous scene—simple, very sexy and incredibly effective—which captures my full attention.

The story continues, and Isobel gives the belligerent Clifford a severe thrashing with an electric cable on his backside (incidentally, we are treated to a few titillating scenes where her dressing gown flies open, offering a glimpse of Isobel’s intimate parts), until he finally gives in, in tears.

I have rarely read such an intense scene of torture and humiliation; Stanton’s artwork is vivid and raw, underpinned by scathing dialogue. This story is a true distillation of raw violence and submission.
