I’ve always been a huge fan of Westerns. As a child, I grew up watching films starring John Wayne, but I really developed a keen interest in Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Westerns (with music by Ennio Morricone). Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly are among my all-time favourites.
This illustration is inspired by these films and pays a small tribute to them. It depicts a very elegant woman, a lady cowgirl, an outlaw. In a gunfight to free her accomplice, she killed the sheriff with a bullet through the heart, piercing his badge, and another through the head. As she holds firmly onto the rope with which her partner was to be hanged, he crawls across the floor to greedily lick her boots. In the distance, the sheriff’s deputies can be seen emerging from the saloon and lining up to face the killer, whilst she calmly lights a cigarillo, striking a triumphant pose, her stiletto boot crushing the sheriff’s face, contorted in pain.
