The sheriff and his revolver fell heavily to the ground. His hat rolled into the dust.
Beneath the sheltered boardwalk of the General Store, her head buried in her hands, the sheriff’s wife weeps bitterly. Her little boy, in tears, clings to his mother’s dress.
In the distance, drunk and staggering, the sheriff’s deputies and a few trigger-happy hotheads emerge from the saloon.
All this commotion does not disturb the cowgirl, who calmly lights a cigarillo. She contemptuously tramples the bloodied head of her victim under her heavy, dusty heeled boots, which a prisoner greedily licks.
